This bicycle loan system is available in Malaga as of 4th March 2014.
Thanks to a collaborative agreement between the Transport Consortium and the Empresa Malagueña de Transportes, our travel card can now be used with malagabici, a loan scheme enabling EMT travel card holders to get around the city by bike.
Now, holders of the Consortium’s own travel card can also enjoy all of the benefits of this service, which is provided by Malaga City Council through CEMUSA (the company responsible for street furniture) and EMT itself.
Users can register for this service, which is free for the first year, at the Consortium’s offices, though topping up and subscription cancellation must be carried out at EMT’s customer service department. Civil responsibility and accident insurance cover will cost €5.
To collect a bicycle from the corresponding pick-up point, check that the green light on the clamp is lit and swipe your Consortium travel card through the reader. The first half hour is free of charge.
This measure is an attempt by the Consortium to promote sustainable mobility through the use of non-motorised means of transport in combination with bus travel. The travel card card is now accepted by long-distance buses within the Malaga area, local buses in Malaga, Alhaurin de la Torre and Benalmadena, Malaga’s suburban train service (lines C1 and C2), all services belonging to other Metropolitan Transport Consortia in Andalucia, and now, in the wake of the aforementioned agreement, Malaga’s public bicycle hire service.
